Rev. Dr. Steve Trewartha, Senior Pastor

Pastor Steve is the founding and senior pastor of FaithPoint Lutheran Church in New Prague, Minnesota. He has served as a pastor in the Lutheran Church for 25 years in Minnesota, North Dakota and Colombia, South America. Steve’s passion is helping people become all they can be through a living relationship with Jesus Christ. This means helping people come to, grow in, and live out their faith in ways God leads.

Steve completed his undergraduate studies at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, Master of Divinity degree at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN and Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ, and doctorate from Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, KY.

Steve has been married to his wonderful wife Debbie, a teacher at New Prague Middle School, and they have three children. He enjoys basketball, biking, playing guitar and fixing things when he is not spending time with his family.

Gretchen Havlicek, Director of Adult and Family Ministries

Gretchen is our Director of Adult and Family Ministries. She helps adults and families get connected at FaithPoint. She helps launch new ministries and encourages adults toward a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Gretchen graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN with a degree in International Studies and has done some post-graduate work at St. Thomas University in the area of non-profit organizational management. She was a refugee resettlement director in Minneapolis in the 90’s and has a passion for worldwide missions. For over 25 years, Gretchen has worked in local churches primarily in the area of adult ministries with particular focus in small groups, discipleship, and connecting new attendees in a congregation.

She and her husband Chris have been married for over 30 years. They both grew up in the New Prague area and they have three adult children. Some of their favorite hobbies are hiking and traveling abroad together.

Shirley Schulz, Administrative Assistant

Shirley is our Administrative Assistant. She and her husband, Dave, have six children, 10+ grandchildren, and great-grandchildren too! She moved from Norwood Young America to New Prague in 1998. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle, MN. Shirley received her certification in IT Networking in 1999 and was employed in that field. She is a part of the usher team, cleaning team, Pink Tag Ministry, Loads of Love, and Hope House. Shirley enjoys being outdoors, camping, flower gardening, and reading.

Gretchen Smith, Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Gretchen Smith is our Children’s Ministry Coordinator. She has been the Sunday school Coordinator & Christmas Play director here at FaithPoint for the last 9 years. She has a passion for learning & sharing the word of God. She grew up going to Bible camps, teaching Sunday School, & helping with VBS to build a strong foundation of faith. Through the years here at FaithPoint, she has directed Sunday School, the Christmas play, been a JAM group leader, station leader at VBS, led women’s bible studies, & served on the women’s ministry team.

She and her husband, Mike, live in New Prague with their 4 children. She enjoys being with family, playing games, cooking, gardening, & camping. Whether big or small, she is always up for a fun adventure.

Megan Monson, Director of Youth Ministries

Megan is our Youth Ministry Director. She also leads Elevate Praise, the youth worship band, and volunteers on the main worship team. She has been going to Faithpoint since it was founded. Megan has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota. Two years after she graduated, Megan took two leadership training courses put on by an organization called Tentmakers. She did their 40-day Daniel Leadership Institute and then continued with Tentmakers and did their Year-on-Mission Program. God sent her to Valley City, North Dakota, where she spent a year working with three other Tentmakers as they did ministry together, as well as held part-time jobs in the community. Megan says that she has gained so much experience from that year and is excited to see what God has in store for her here at Faithpoint.

She is currently enrolled in the Master’s University, studying for a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Counseling. She also volunteers once a week at an animal rescue center. When she is not busy with school, work, volunteering, and being with family, Megan likes to be outside as much as possible and enjoys hiking, biking, and camping. She also enjoys reading books she collected during her time with Tentmakers and walking other people’s dogs.

Marla Mayer, Communications Coordinator

Marla is our Communications Coordinator. She manages our external communications, website, livestreaming and signage. She has also coordinated the Confirmation program for many years, as well as being a mentor for many Confirmation students.

Marla graduated from Augsburg College, in Minneapolis, MN with a degree in Communications and Political Science and the University of St. Thomas with a Master of Business Communications degree. She has 30+ years of non-profit marketing communications experience and is currently a consultant for several non-profits.

She and her husband, John, have three children and are also on the Welcome Team. She enjoys studying God’s word and feels privileged to have had the opportunity to work with kids and help them grow in their relationship with Christ.

We are a church that cares a great deal about welcoming new people and expect guests every week. FaithPoint’s weekly worship is Real, Relevant and Reverent. Our relaxed, “come as you are” style is contagious and filled with joy. We gather for Worship on Sunday mornings at 8:30 & 10am in our beautiful new building at 1051 270th Street West, just outside of New Prague, MN.
