Faith Stepping Stones

FaithPoint believes that it is important for children to grown up in an environment that supports Christ’s teachings in order to become their best selves. We believe that parent’s are the primary faith influencers in their children’s lives.  Therefore, we provide opportunities for parents to work with their children to learn about important Christian practices. It is our goal to give parents and children the opportunity for dialogue about what it means to be a Christian and provide ideas and tools to equip them to guide their children in growing spiritually.

Baptism

Baptism is an important step for a family.  If you are interested in having a baptism contact the Church office.

Pastor Steve will meet with you beforehand to discuss the ceremony and what to expect and answer any questions you may have. We baptize adults and children of all ages, but most commonly in the Lutheran church, individuals are baptized as infants. Infants are completely dependent on their parents to love them and give them everything they need to live, just as we are dependent upon God. As part of the baptismal service, we ask parents to make several promises  – to faithfully bring them to worship, to teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, and place in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for their instruction in the Christian faith.

Preschool Faith Stepping Stone

This class is for preschoolers ages 3 and 4, who have not attended the class before along with their parents. It is a great time of introducing parents to tools and guidance on sharing faith during their preschool years. Parents spend the morning with their child in directed activities. We hold this class on a Saturday morning in early September. See Class details! Sign up at the Information Table or contact Gretchen Havlicek (gretchen@faithpointlc.org) if you would like to participate.  Any families in the community are welcome to come. There is no cost, but letting us know you are coming helps us with planning.

Prayer Faith Stepping Stone

Our Faith Stepping Stone Prayer Class is held from 9:30 – noon on a Saturday in February and the recognition during the services the next day. This class is for first graders and second graders who have not taken the class. Parents and their child experience 10 different ways to do kid-friendly prayers and learn more about the Lord’s Prayer. We end the interactive morning with a pizza lunch. On Sunday, at the worship service of your choice there will be a prayer of blessing for you and your child, the children will help lead the congregation in the Lord’s Prayer, and the the children will receive a small gift to remind them of the importance of prayer. Sign up at the Information Table or by contacting Gretchen Havlicek at church.  (Gretchen@faithpointlc.org)

Bible Faith Stepping Stone

One of the promises parents make when their child is baptized is to “faithfully bring them to the services of God’s house, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, Ten Commandments and place in their hands the Holy Scriptures.” To help parents fulfill that promise we offer a Bible class in the fall. See all class details here!

This Faith Stepping Stone Class is geared towards 3rd graders. It is a wonderful opportunity for your child and at least one parent to explore the truths of the Bible. During class we will be learning about the 66 books of the Bible and explore some important Bible passages.

All students attending the class will receive a complimentary Children’s Study Bible.

Contact Gretchen (gretchen@faithpointlc.org) with any questions.

First Communion

One of the most precious gifts Jesus Christ gives to us is Himself.  An important way we receive Christ is in partaking of Holy Communion – “the Body of Christ, given for you, the Blood of Christ, shed for you”. To help us better understand how we prepare for Holy Communion, we are offering a class specifically designed for 5th and 6th graders. At least one parent must attend with their child as they learn about the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

First Communion Faith Stepping Stone Class will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 9:30am – noon.

In order to understand Holy Communion, it’s important to learn about the Jewish Passover; a tradition still celebrated among practicing Jews today. Our time together will include an interactive retelling of the Passover and a special game. We’ll also talk about how to receive communion, the bread we use, and things the Altar Guild does to help us focus on worship. We do not plan to bake unleavened bread together as we have done in the past. However, we will send our recipe with you and you can try it at home. The morning will be memorable and will include some pizza at the end. Our First Communion Instruction will be as follows:

Class:  Saturday, March 16,  9:30am – noon.  We end with a pizza lunch (11:30 – noon).
What to Bring?  Students should attend with a parent and bring a shoebox, a bathrobe (or a parent’s cardigan sweater or shawl works), and slippers (or flip-flops). These items are for the interactive experience.
First Communion Celebration:  Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 10 am.
What to wear on Sunday?  Most will dress up a bit for this special occasion but there are no requirements.
Cost: There is no charge to you for the class or for the gift.
Can I bring a friend?  Yes, any 5th or 6th grader in the community who is interested in the class may come. They do not have to attend FaithPoint regularly, but they do need to come with a parent. 7th graders who have not received instruction are also welcome.

Please RSVP!  You can email Pastor Steve or Gretchen, sign up at church, or call us at church 952-758-6297. We will purchase supplies for the class, gifts for each student, and a pizza lunch.  Sibling Care is provided if needed.

Please let us know if your family needs care for siblings and if any of you have food allergies.

The celebration of Holy Communion compliments our Baptism into the Body of Christ and marks an important step in understanding our faith relationship with Jesus Christ. As such, we encourage you to make special note of the Communion Celebration for your child by inviting godparents, grandparents or others to participate in this time when your child will receive the sacrament for the first time.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email one of us:

Confirmation (6-8th grade)

Confirmation Ministry provides an intentional time for instruction in the Christian faith for all 6th – 8th graders. Our time of instruction includes Connect (7-7:30pm)– an energetic, creative learning time; learning about the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism; and time in mentor small groups (7:30-8:30). All members and non-members of the community are welcome in this wonderful ministry. Michelle Buetow helps with the administrative part of Confirmation and Pastor Steve and Megan Monson lead the teaching and game times.

Graduation

Our series of Faith Stepping Stone Classes concludes with a special Graduation Celebration for our graduating high school seniors. This Faith Stepping Stone class is held on a Sunday in late May. We have a special service with a slide show with pictures and future plans and a blessing of the children and the children bless their parents.  There is a special gift given to each participant and a brunch for the entire families follows. If you have a senior graduating this year contact Gretchen Havlicek at gretchen@faithpointlc.org for more information.
