Women’s Book Club
FaithPoint Women’s Ministry began the Book Club during the pandemic in the summer of 2020 as a way for us to stay connected to one another. We have continued the book club and read 10 Christian books a year, alternating between Fiction, Biography and Christian Living books. Women join in whenever they have availability or the desire to read the selected book.

February (Christian Fiction)
Whose Waves These Are by Amanda Dykes
This book captured both the 2020 Christy and Inspy Christian Fiction Awards. It is a story of a grieving fisherman in Maine following WW II. It is a dual time period novel. I found the book to be engaging from the beginning and enjoyed its wonderful character development and descriptive settings that helped me picture this story in a coastal village. There is a little romance – well, it is our February selection 😉
Books: Available from the Scott County Library and through their Libby app (both audio and print). Let Gretchen know if you need any help finding this one.

March (Christian Biography)
Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret by Dr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor
Compelled to share the gospel with the unreached people of China, Hudson Taylor devoted his life to this purpose. He modeled a life of utter dependence on Christ for both his spiritual and material needs. That was his secret and the reason for his lasting impact on the people of China and missions. This biography by his son and daughter-in-law has become a Christian classic. I read this in college and loved it. I’m looking forward to delving into it again.
Books: Gretchen will be ordering these new in bulk at $6 each. Let her know if you want one.

April (Christian Living)
Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer
The winner of the Christian Book of the Year award in 2025. This is one you may want to have on your shelf. The author lays out a plan with useful guidelines and tools to implement in your life. He has also written another popular Christian Living book called the “Ruthless Elimination of Hurry”. The Practicing the Way study course and the Ruthless Elimination of Hurry is on Right Now Media. Check it out at The Practicing the Way Course :: RightNow Media. If you need access to Right Now Media, just let me know. I’ll send you the link. It’s a free resource provided by FaithPoint to you to help you grow in your faith.
Books: The large print version is available at the Scott County Library.

May/June (Christian Fiction)
The Undoing of Saint Silvanus by Beth Moore
A fictional story with mystery, messy family life and God’s ultimate purpose being fulfilled. Located in New Orleans, Saint Silvanus was originally built during the 1800s as a church and was later converted to an apartment complex now run by Jillian’s estranged grandmother. While in town attending her father’s funeral, Jillian meets an eclectic group of tenants from the building. As strange things begin happening, she finds out her father was actually murdered. When relics from the building appear in new places, she considers that the building could be cursed. Now she can’t leave until she finds out what is really going on. The book was a Christy Award Finalist in 2017.
Books: Scott County has a large print, audio and Libby versions available. I have 5 hardcovers at $5 each. Let me know if you are interested in one.
