One of the deepest questions every person asks is: Who am I?
We spend much of our lives trying to answer that question. Some look to success. Others to relationships, reputation, politics, family, achievements, or even religious performance. We search for something that will tell us we matter, that we belong, and that we are enough.
But what if our identity isn’t something we achieve? What if it’s something we receive?
This Sunday we continue our summer series, Free to Be, with a message called “Free to Belong.” In Jesus’ familiar parable of the Prodigal Son, we encounter two brothers who seem very different on the surface. One runs away from the Father in open rebellion. The other stays close through dutiful obedience. Yet both are searching for identity apart from the Father. But this story is not ultimately about two lost sons.
It is about a Father who comes toward them both. Before either son can fix himself, prove himself, or earn his way home, the Father moves toward him in love.
That is also the story told by the Apostles Creed. In it we confess a God who created us, redeemed us, and calls us by His Spirit into His family. Our deepest identity is not found in what we’ve done, what we’ve failed to do, or what others think about us. It is found in the God who comes toward us in grace. Join us at 9am!
