What is the purpose of God’s Law?
For many Christians, the Law can feel like a list of rules—a long collection of things God expects us to do if we want to be good Christians. And if that’s all we think the Law is, we can easily fall into one of two traps: trying desperately to keep it, or feeling like we’ll never be good enough.
But what if we’re looking at God’s Law the wrong way?
This Sunday we’ll turn to Romans 13:8-14, where Paul reminds us of a surprisingly simple summary of God’s Law: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
The Law doesn’t simply tell us what not to do. It shows us what love for the people God has placed around us actually looks like. Don’t steal because love protects your neighbor. Don’t lie because love tells the truth. Don’t covet because love seeks the good of others rather than taking what belongs to them.
Paul tells us to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” and to live in the light of what God has already done. There is still time to love. There are still people God has placed around us who need to experience the grace of Christ through us.
