When God calls Moses to confront the Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of bondage and into the Promised Land, he is anything but excited. In fact, his first excuse is: “Who am I” that I should be the one to take on this monumental task. God responds, “I will be with you.”  But Moses isn’t yet convinced.  He rattles off another four excuses as to why he’s not a good fit for the job, and that God should find someone else.  But with each excuse, God has a timely reply. Finally, Moses takes the job, and God is indeed with him.

Moses’ encounter with God is not the only one like it we read about in scripture. Jeremiah, Isaiah, Gideon and others all gave reasons as to why they were not the best fit to answer God’s call.

How about you? Have you considered God’s calling on your life? The Prophet Isaiah said, “Lord, here am I, send me.” Jesus added, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
