Dear People of FaithPoint,

Thanks for completing the recent survey (Missional Assessment Profile).  In all, we hadsurvey-results 153 people complete the survey, a very good number to gain the pulse of our congregation. Last Saturday, November 5th Pastor Jana Swenson, with Kairos, shared with about 30 of us some of the highlights of the survey. I want you to go to here and see the results of the survey yourself while also keeping in mind:

The survey:

  • Is the beginning of our discovery and discernment, not the end of it
  • Can help us see where energy and resources can be more effectively placed
  • Assesses our current ministries and the perception of those who engage with it

First, we all need to celebrate that the survey shows FaithPoint to be a healthy and vibrant congregation that is poised for growth!  We have a lot of great ministries firing on all cylinders including vibrant worship, outreach and ministry opportunities for all ages.  However, we are treating them as our best kept secret in that we are reticent in telling others about these opportunities (see slide 18 for example).

Other highlights of the survey say that with our unique governance structure, we need to continue to work hard on communication and transparency.  When we make important decisions, it is important that we work hard to gather and listen to congregational input.  We also had some very high marks in the areas of small groups, education and leadership, but there is also room for improvement in each area, and in casting a clear, concise vision as we move forward.

In the area of priorities, the survey said that our top two priorities are highly commendable:

  • Helping members recognize God at work in all aspects of their lives
  • Exploring new and innovative ways to be church in today’s culture (see slide 43)

Slide 58 (Ministry Reflections) highlights some key opportunities moving forward, including:

  • Enhancing our vision and ministry to young families
  • Helping people to talk about their personal faith, experience at FaithPoint and faith practice
  • Learn more creative ways for spiritual growth (like our new RightNow Media!)

In the area of finances, our giving is somewhat lower than for congregations comparable to our size, but we also respond expeditiously and generously when there is a clear need.  Since, most people are well aware of the real need for space particularly on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, during funerals and weddings, there is strong consensus and excitement on the need to build a new facility.

The survey also said 98% plan to give more or the same in the next year.  But we definitely have room to grow in our generosity.  No campaign goal has been set, but we talked about a goal in the neighborhood of $800,000, with the need to raise at least 40-50% of that before we start to build.

Do take time to look carefully at the survey to see the actual results for yourself. Link to Survey Results. This is an exciting time in the life of FaithPoint.  We are entering a new chapter in the story of how God is leading us. And I have no doubt that he will lead us faithfully into a bright future. Please make this your fervent prayer.

Because of Jesus,
Pastor Steve Trewartha
